Joan Chandos Baez born January 9, 1941 in Staten Island, New York. In 1956, she heard young Martin Luther King, Jr speak about nonviolence, civil rights and social change, the speech made her cried and influenced her soul. Several years later, they became friends. Brave, tough, easy to cry when she sees something improper, humanism, against the war, close to poverty, supporting the minority etc.....etc.....etc... In August 1963, she led a crowd of 300,000 in singing "We Shall Overcome" at The Lincoln Memorial. This song originally was We Will Overcome" first appears and published this lyrics in 1901 as gospel music composition by Charles Tindley an African Methodist Episcopal Church. The song was published in 1947 as "We Will Overcome" and We Shall Overcome" is a protest song against the unequal civil rights.
